Verse entitled 'On PROVIDENCE' reads, 'God works in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform: He plants his footsteps on the sea, And rides upon the storm. Deep in unfathomable mines, Of never failing skill, He treasures up his bright designs, And works his sovereign will. Ye feeble saints fresh courage take: The clouds ye so much dread, Are big with mercy and shall break, In blessings on your head. Signed and dated 'Deborah Smith Ackworth 1814'. Ackworth is a well known Quaker School near Pontefract, West Yorkshire, in England. Framed in an old, possibly original, black, ebonised wood frame with uv protected glass. Mounting: The sampler is stitched over acid free card. Frame backed with wood and brown paper.
