1829 House & windmill sampler by Ann Swain. Probably Scottish. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass. Fixed to card backing. The sampler is worked in silk, cotton and fine wool on a canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours red, blue, pale blue, pale green, white, black, pink, light brown and orange. Alphabets A-Z in upper case. Verse reads, 'Be thou faithful unto>death>And I will give thee a>crown of Life'. Signed and dated, 'Ann Swain Aged 12 1829'. A good set of motifs, including a windmill, dogs, birds, angels, potted flowering plants, spotted stags, temples, fruit baskets, blossoming trees, crown and a house with a garden and beehives.
