The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours brown, cream, red, green, copper, blue and black. Verse reads, 'Blest Mary what a happy choice> And may I choose the same> To sit at Jesus sacred feet> And love is gracious name'. Signed with initials and dated, 'Mary Herbert Skuse January th 25 1826'. A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a women stood in the garden, a girl under an arbour, stars, potted flowering plants, fruit baskets, blossoming trees, sheep and birds including owls.
