The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Floral border. Colours blues, cream, red, yellow, black, pink, greens and browns. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-9. Verse reads 'Sincerity is to speak as we think to do as we pretend> and profefs to perform and make good what we> promise; and really to be what we woulb seem anb> appear to be.' Signed and dated 'Esther Sleddle September 1791'. A good set of motifs, including potted flowering plants, dogs, birds, flowers, fruit baskets, black sheep and crowns.
