The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering strawberry border. Colours greens, cream, copper, browns and blue. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10. Inscription reads 'Favour is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a> woman that feareth the LORD, she fhall be> praised.' Signed and dated, 'Elizabeth Robinson 1829'. A wonderful set of motifs, including stags, birds, trees, laden with fruit, acorns, fruit baskets, blossoming trees, crowns, potted flowering plants, hearts and diamonds.
