The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours black, cream, green, copper, brown and pink. Verse entitled 'Glory' reads 'In Bloom of youth Let reason be your Guide> And from its Dictates never turn aside,> Indulge no pafsion banish every Vice> Let nought. What'eer your soul to sin entice> Let Noble Objects your attention Claim,> To Cultivate your mind, be it all your aim.> Let modesty and Truth shine through your soul> And spotless virtue influence the whole,> Tis Virtue only makes you truly fair> Therefore let Virtue be your Chiefest Care.> Tis the will add a Grace when youth is fled. Tis this will flourish on a houry head. Tis this alone will give you inward peace.> This is the way that leads to heavenly bliss,> In short this is they way that God has Given> To make you useful and fit for heaven'.
