The sampler is worked in fine wool on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours green, cream, pale blue, gold, pink, red and dark brown. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-9. Signed and dated, 'Ann Baxendale Worked this in 1839 aged 15'. A good set of motifs, including Solomon's Temple, birds, potted flowering plants, fruit baskets, crowns and two dogs.
