The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Meandering floral/thistle border. Colours pinks, gold, white, black, blues and brown. Family initials. Inscription reads 'MISS HILL' (Probably her teacher). Signed and dated 'AMELIA PATTULL HER WORK' and '1816 AMELIA PATTULL AGED 14'. A wonderful set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a large house, dogs, birds, fruit baskets and potted flowering plants.
