The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours green, cream, pale blue, brown and black. Alphabets A-Z in lower case and numbers 1-20 Verse entitled 'A WISH' reads 'May God who reigns enthroned on high>In that bright world above the sky>In tender pity conde scend>To be my father and my friend>To be lamb in Jesu's fold>I'd covet more than mines of gold>For earth with all her gaudy toys>Can neer afford such lasting joys>Soon I must quit this vale of woe>And close my eyes on all below>Then may my happy sqirit (sic) rise>To join the chorus of the skies'.
Signed and dated 'Jane Cormick Age 11 years 1832'.
