1835 Religious Silkwork Sampler by Sarah Nodes. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours gold, cream, navy blue, greens and browns. Verse reads 'Lord,teach my youthful heart thy fear;> Thy grace to me be given:> make me thy faithful servant hear,> And bring me safe to heaven.' Signed and dated 'Sarah Nodes Aged 11 Years Novbr 19th 1835'. A good set of motifs, including butterflies, birds, flowers, potted flowering plants, dogs and a tree. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and rippled, dimpled, old glass. Tacked to a wood stretcher frame with card and brown paper backing.
