Pair Sister Silkwork Samplers 1742 & 1746 by Elizabeth & Alice Sutton. Worked in a variety of stitches. Framed in an old, possibly original, black, ebonised wood frame. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. Colours brown, cream, green, copper, gold, pink, blue and red. Lord's Prayer and religious verse on both read 'Our> Father, Which art> in Heaven, Hallowed be> thy name. Thy Kingdon come.> Thy Will be done in Earth, as it is in> Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.> And forgive us our trefpaffes, as we for> give them that trefpafs against us And> lead us not into temptation, But deli> ver us from evil. For thine is> the Kingdom, and the pow>er, and the glory for> ever and ever> Amen.' and ' Love God with all your Soul and strength> With all your Heart and mind,> And love your Neighbour as your felf.> Be faithful juft and Kind.> Deal with another as you'd have> Another deal with you> What you're unwilling to receive,> Be fure you never do.' Signed and dated 'Elizabeth Sutton 1742' and 'Alice Sutton 1746'. A wonderful set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including flowers, grapes, leaves and columns.
