The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering strawberry border. Colours greens, cream, pale blue, copper, gold, black, pink, red and purple. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-12. Verse reads 'Give me O Lord thy heavenly Grace>Nor let my soul complain>That the young Morning of my Days>Has not been spent in vain'. Signed and dated 'MARY HALL IS MY NAME AT TWELVE YEARS HOLD II ROUGHT THE SAME 1786'. A scattering of motifs, including birds and flowering trees.
