Circa 1745 Sampler by Frances Stanney. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with acid free card with wood and brown paper backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours red, blue, green, gold, white, pink, brown and grey. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-9 Verses read 'See how the Lillies flourifh White and fair! See, how the> Ravens fed from Heaven are! Then ne'er diftuft thy God> for Cloth and Bread, Whilft lillies flourifh and the Ravens fed.' and 'Keep Death And Judement, Always In Thine Eye:> None Is Fit To Live: But Who Are Fit To Die.' and 'When Greedy Worms My Body Eat > Then Here You See My Work Compleat' and 'My Father and my Mother dear Have Paid for This> Which I have Here'.. Signed 'Frances Stanney Born December the Eighteenth in the Year of our Lord one Thousand seven Hundred and Thirty six and Babtized the Ninth of January following'.
