Small 1817 Stoneleigh School Sampler by Letticia Mulliss. Framed in a modern maple frame with glass. Loose mounted (or possibly glued around the extreme edges) over a card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Simple line border. Colours browns, cream, pink, greens and blue. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-12. Inscription reads 'In Words of Truth> Give God the Praise> He guards your Youth> Spend well your Days'. Signed and dated 'Letticia Mullifs Finished the 5 of December 1817 Aged 11 Stoneleigh School Warwickshire'. Warwickshire is a county in England. Stoneleigh School closed in 1976, but the building still stands, now converted into apartments. A scattering of motifs, including a fruit basket, potted flowering plants and crowns.
