The sampler is worked in a silk thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering strawberry border. Colours gold, cream, silver, black, browns and greens. Inscription reads 'These are the Spies which> went to view the land of Canaan'. Signed and dated 'Frances Evanson 1843'. A good set of motifs, including the Spies of Canaan, dogs, birds, potted flowering plants, stags, fir trees, a house and butterflies.
