1821 Motif sampler by M. Cusin. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Meandering strawberry border. Colours green, cream, light brown, copper, gold, green and blue. Family names/initials. Signed and dated 'M. Cusin Aged 10 Years 1821 EIG'. A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a castle, butterflies, Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life, a snake coiled around its trunk, dogs, birds, potted flowering plants, rabbits, fruit baskets, squirrels, blossoming trees, hearts, two houses, peacocks, goats and ladies and a gentlemen.
