The sampler is worked in fine silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours pink, cream, blue, copper, white, black, gold and green. Verse entitled 'TIME' reads 'The moments fly-a minute's gone!>The minutes fly-an hour is run!>The day is fled -the night is here!>Thus flies a week-a month-a year.'>'A year-alas! How soon it's past;>Who knows but this may be my last!>A few short years, how soon they're fled,>And we are number'd with the dead.' Signed and dated 'Elizabeth Drews Aug 18th 18??'. A wonderful set of small and finely stitched motifs, including fruit baskets, owls, dogs, birds, houses, flowers, stags, fir trees, potted flowering plants, diamonds, hearts and crowns.
