The sampler is worked in a silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours browns, cream, gold, black, blues and greens. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-8. Verse reads 'Great God create my heart anew> And form my Spirit pure and true> O make me wife betimes to fpy> My danger and my remedy'. Signed and dated 'Rachel Reeve Aged 12 yr July 13 1824'. A wonderful set of motifs, including cats, birds, flowers, potted flowering plants, trees, laden with fruit, rabbits, fruit baskets, crowns, diamonds, hearts, butterflies and stags.
