The samplers are worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Embroidered border. Colours browns, cream, gold, white, pinks, greens and blues. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-9. Identical verses read 'At the Nativity of Christ our Lord>The Angels did rejoice with one Accord>Let Christians imitate them here on Earth>And keep this Feast with Joy and civil Mirth'. Elizabeth misspelt 'civil' as 'civial'.
