The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Meandering floral border. Colours greens, red, pale blue, light brown, white, pink, black and pale yellow. Alphabets A-Z in upper case.
Verse reads 'Jesus permit thy gracious Name to stand>As the first efforts of an infant's hand.>And while her fingers on the canvas move.>Engage her tender heart to seek thy love.>With thy dear children let her have a part.>And write thy Name thyself upon her heart.>and Verse entitled 'On Happiness' reads
'Plant of celestial seed if dropt below.>Say in what mortal soil thou deignst to grow.>Fair op'ning to some courts propitious shine.>Or deep with diamonds in the flaming mine.'
