1829 & 1833 Pair Sister Samplers by Ann and Elizabeth Nicol. Framed in old wood frames with glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The samplers are worked in fine wool and a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Zig zag borders. Colours red, cream, black, pink, orange, greens and blues. Alphabets A-Z in upper case, and family initials. Signed and dated 'ANN NICOL AGED 10 YEARS 1829' and 'ELIZABETH NICOL AGED 12 YEARS 1833'. A good set of motifs, including - Ann - a house with figures, dogs, birds, flowers, rabbits, fruit baskets, crowns, hearts, a sailing ship and peacocks; and Elizabeth - a house, birds, flowers, figures, potted flowering plants, rabbits, fir trees, crowns, hearts, a sailing ship and peacocks.
