1802 Solomon's Temple Sampler by Jane Batty. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering strawberry border. Colours black, cream, blue, green, pink, brown and copper. Verse reads 'Still for thy loving kindnefs, Lord,>I in thy temple wait,>I look to find thee in thy word> Or at thy table meet> Here in thine own appointed ways> I wait to learn thy will> Silent I ftand before thy face> And hear thee fay Be ftill> I work, and own my labour vain> And thus from work I ceafe> I ftrive: and fee my fruitlefs pain,> Till God create my peace.> I truft in him who ftands between> The Father's wrath and me:> Jefu, thou great eternal Mean,> I look for all from thee!' Signed and dated 'Jane Batty Aged 15, 1802'. A good set of motifs, some finely detailed, including Solomon's Temple, dogs, birds, flowers, stags, fir trees, crowns, butterflies, rabbits, a recumbent lamb and fruit baskets.
